Tonight

As I looked over my pictures I realized I didn't put any baking powder in the pie crust. Tomorrow will be a taste test. Maybe we'll have pie for breakfast.

Skiing in Marquette
Last night we skied IN Marquette. We left from our back door, headed down College Street to Spruce Street, along Spruce to Crescent, Crescent to Lakeshore, turned around because the icy wind was cold, and skied back. The streets were pretty fast, just a little icy. We saw another skier who had skinnier skies and probably cruised down th Pine Street hill.

Winter is here.

Yesterday Bill shoveled four times...before work, at lunch, after work, and a couple of hours later. We probably have a foot of snow! The snow this year has really caught me off guard. I'm not ready for winter yet! We covered our gardens a few weeks ago and now you can barely tell that the raised beds are even in the yard. I called the NMU's Brrr line again this morning hoping for a snow day. On the radio this morning the news guy said there is 19 inches of snow in Trenary. I think it is here to stay.

Polka Dot Maples
Check out this picture by Bill's college friend Andy Nelson-Zaleski. The leaves have black spots that are caused by a fungus. The polka dot trees are all over town. It seems to only be affecting a certain kind of Maple. We have one in our yard that has the polka dot syndrome. The Mining Journal did an article on it today: http://miningjournal.net/page/content.detail/id/518515.html?nav=5006

For a moment like this...
Some people wait a lifetime.

A couple of years ago one of my New Years resolutions was to enter a contest/giveaway at least once a day. I entered HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes, Blog Cabin Sweepstakes, REALSimple sweepstakes, trips to Colorado. I probably didn't do them once a day, but I was pretty diligent--at least for the first month or so, as most resolutions go. Years pass, days pass, I continued to enter giveaways if it was something I would really like --not the garage giveaways or tool giveaways. I even April Fooled people with giveaways. Earlier this week I entered a giveaway for a Real Simple and William Sonoma $5000 kitchen upgrade.

Well, today I have news. I WON!!!!!

I'm so excited!

We carved pumpkins last week. Bill used the stem as the nose of his. I used a special cordless drill technique for two pumpkins. One was polka dot and the other says BOO.
