I like it with the light out (which is how it is most of the time). Last night was the real first test of the fancy bulb--was like a fluorescent office light. Blue and almost flickery. I'm thinking that the light bulb technology has improved in the last 2 years which is how long it has been sitting in a box in our basement.

It was less than $20 at Lowe's when we bought it.
