Easy Headboard Makeover
We have a functional headboard made of bamboo (see below). I've been wanting to do a weekend project for a while and did one last weekend. I had been collecting the supplies: 1 fabric shower curtain and 1 twin-size egg carton foam thing.
The width of a queen size bed is 60 inches by 80 inches. Generally shower curtains are 72 inches by 72 inches and a twin bed is 39 inches by 75 inches.
I didn't really want to staple the fabric onto the headboard so I folded the shower curtain in half with the good sides together and sewed the short sides together. I turned the fabric right side out and could have ironed it but didn't. This made something like a big pillowcase that the foam could go inside and then could slide over the headboard.
We trimmed about 6 inches off of the foam, folded it in half the long way, and shoved it into the shower curtain pillowcase (below).
Next we slid the headboard right into the foam--there was plenty of room (would make the width/length shorter in the future).

The shower curtain was $13 on clearance at Kohl's and is a pretty sturdy canvas--better than general fabric from a fabric store--and pretty cheap. I didn't cut it at all so if I want to use it for something later the seams can be ripped and re-sewn into something else. The twin egg crate thing was $10 from Target. It was the cheapest I could find--we trimmed it to fit the width of the queen size bed. The sewing took less than 2 minutes--straight seam on two sides.
You can see on the left hand side how the fabric is a little too wide. If it bugs me too much I can do another seam a little further in and it will be fixed.

good job on the headboard, you are so crafty!! I've done the same thing just in case I want to reuse it somewhere else...
I actually bought 3 of the shower curtains because they were such a good deal and a nice fabric. The last one I bought was $3.
i love this!! it looks great... when are you coming to visit and kick my butt?
Not bad for a shower curtain, eh?
wow! looks great!
Crap Jess, I think I deleted your comment on accident. Let me know when you want it back. I'll keep it safe and won't paint it. (as you can see)
